Re: Top 5 GREATEST QB's of ALL TIME
So it seems like Marino tops the majority of peoples list and Elway around third. No love for Unitas?
* Unitas held the record for most Pro Bowl appearances (10) by a quarterback until Brett Favre tied him in 2008.
* Unitas set the standard for most wins as a starting quarterback with 118 regular season victories (since surpassed by Fran Tarkenton, Dan Marino, John Elway, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning).
* Unitas was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
* Johnny Unitas' #16 is the only number retired by the football program at the University of Louisville.
* Unitas Tower, a dormitory at the University of Louisville, is named for Johnny Unitas.
* A statue of Johnny Unitas sits in the north end zone of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium at the University of Louisville. It is tradition for each Cardinal player to touch the statue as he enters the field.
* Since 1987, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award has been awarded to the top senior quarterback of the current year in college football. The award is presented annually in Louisville.
* In 1999, he was ranked No. 5 on "The Sporting News'" list of the 100 Greatest Football Players, behind only Joe Montana among quarterbacks. However, in 2004, "TSN" did a special feature on the 50 Greatest Quarterbacks, and Unitas was ranked No. 1 and Montana No. 2. Also in 1999, ESPN's Sportscentury: 50 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century ranked Unitas #32, whereas Montana was #25.
* Just before his death, Johnny Unitas became the community liaison for athletics in Towson, Maryland. The football stadium at Towson University was renamed Johnny Unitas Stadium in 2002. Unitas died less than a week after throwing his last pass in the grand opening of the stadium.
* Johnny set the record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass at 47 games. This remains unsurpassed as of 2009.
* Unitas once owned virtually every passing record in NFL history, most of which were surpassed by Fran Tarkenton of the Minnesota Vikings.

Re: Top 5 GREATEST QB's of ALL TIME
I'll speak on mine
1. Marino (numbers he put up, and probably was the best pure QB ever, quickest release in NFL history)
2. Montana (Winner, 4 titles, wasn't great at one thing but was good at everything)
3. Elway (Great QB, one of the best arms ever, one of the best in the 4th quarter)
4. Young (athletic, could get it done, could pick a defense apart, had and Rice were money together)
5. Moon (His numbers in both the NFL and CFL are off the chart, could spread the ball around to his receivers as good as anybody, king of the Run And Shoot)

Brady has done a lot in a short time too. And I'm not a Brady fan.
So let me ask this seeing these different posts.
Should a ring be considered when these discussions come up? I guess what I'm asking is do numbers speak louder than rings and championships?
EDIT: Paul nice breakdown for each, I dunno if I could c/s the Moon. Having said that, I'm not dissing him at all. I remember him in the oiler blue when i was a kid.
